Can Customers Access Your Business Easily?

One thing that frustrates many people is their inability to be able to contact a company via the communication forum that they want (such as by E-mail or phone).
For companies to do better, Dan Mckee, a Senior Social Media Consultant for Sparkplug Digital, suggests that the firms engage in an honest self reflection:
“Please forgive me in advance if this sounds rude, but are you hiding from your customers? The gut reaction is probably something along the lines of ‘no, of course not! What a dumb question. I would never hide from my customers.’ I’d like to challenge that notion for a moment if you’ll let me. Let’s do a quick experiment. It’ll only take a minute or two.”
Step 1. Grab a notepad and a writing utensil or open up your favorite word processor. Step 2. Quickly make a list of the different ways a current or potential customer may arrive at your site. Step 3. Imagine as if you were a brand new prospect visiting your site for the first time via each of the sources on your list.”
“We hide from our customers when we don’t offer them a wide variety of avenues to reach out. It’s like we’re sabotaging our own chances of success.”

Trust Is a Key to Successfully Competing Online

Online shoppers are often interested in getting the lowest possible prices on the products they want. However, they are unlikely to buy from firms that they do not trust. A recent survey by Rakuten bears this out. Rakuten is a large global online retailer and service provider based in Japan.
As Chris Pappas reports on Launch.it:
“Rakuten’s international survey into consumer shopping preferences found that while consumers love nothing better than a bargain (61%), almost half of global shoppers (49%) surveyed consider the reliability of the retailer to be paramount when making purchase decisions online, highlighting the importance of trust.”
“Retailer trust was most valued in the East, where countries such as Indonesia (69%) and Thailand (65%) ranked reliability as the number one feature when shopping online. Meanwhile, in the U.S., reliability came second only to price, with 75% of Americans citing price as an essential purchase driver.”
“Contrary to the popular belief that shipping and payment options are of high importance to consumers, research also revealed that less than a third (29%) of shoppers surveyed globally saw shipping options as a key factor in their purchase decision. This average falls to around a quarter (26%) in Europe and 33% in the U.S.  Meanwhile, payment options were even less significant, accounting for just 20% of responses globally.  Notably, this fell to just 6% for British shoppers and 9% for Americans.”
“’Competition online is evolving, discerning shoppers will always look for a good deal, but as retailers we need to move away from a model of unsustainable cost cutting towards value creation,’ said Bernard Luthi, CMO and COO of Rakuten’s U.S. flagship E-commerce site, Rakuten.com Shopping.”

Pinterest Adds Web Analytics

To provide better services for consumers and companies, Pinterest (the social media phenomenon) has begun to offer Web analytics for the first time.
According to Daniela Forte, writing for Multichannel Merchant: “The Pinterest Web analytics will measure influence, pin performance, traffic referrals, according to an article on TechCrunch. The new platform services include outbound pinned traffic to Pinterest, inbound traffic from Pinterest, how many have seen the pin, plus a ‘selection’ of most pinned, most clicked, and most recent pins. The main focus for Pinterest has been creating a platform where consumers and businesses can continue using. Pinterest has become a haven for brands because it gives them a platform for engaging with consumers and businesses that doesn’t bear the stigma of ads or other invasive marketing techniques.” For now, the Web analytics are free.
