Infographic: Success Gleaned from Satisfying Shoppers

As Lindsay Scarpello writes for POPAI: “According to a recent survey by American Express, a whopping 80 percent of American shoppers have quit in the middle of a transaction due to an unpleasant or bad shopping experience. This statistic is blatant proof that American shoppers are not happy with the bulk of their shopping experiences, and that includes shopping online and in-stores. So how can retailers remedy this incredible disservice to shoppers? An insightful infographic courtesy of Retail TouchPoints details a strategy worth looking at, here, or after the jump. Considering that 70 percent of American shoppers say that they would spend 13 percent more at a retailer that provides helpful and friendly customer service, the driving point of the infographic seems to be to really focus on the shopper–and then, like magic, the sales will come.”

Is the Retailer Agreement with Mastercard and Visa About to Unravel?

On July 14, we blogged about the pending changes in credit card transactions due to a multi-billion dollar agreement between retailers and Mastercard and Visa over the latters’ tactics.
Now, there is a chance that this agreement may unravel. As Andrew R. Johnson and Ann Zimmerman report in the Wall Street Journal: ” Wal-Mart Stores Inc. on Tuesday urged merchants to reject a pending multi-billion-dollar settlement reached by Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. in lawsuits filed by retailers over credit-card processing fees. Target Corp. and the National Association of Convenience Stores, which is a plaintiff in the class-action suit, also have opposed the deal. Though Wal-Mart and Target aren’t plaintiffs in the class actions, they are members of the plaintiff class and will have the chance to opt out of parts of the class settlement. If enough merchants opt out, it could derail the deal.”

Walgreens Powers Multi-Touch Strategy

Walgreens is slowing down its new-store opening plans and placing more emphasis on technology and social media. As reported by Brian Quinton for Chief Marketer: “If you’re Deerfield, IL-based Walgreens, you transform yourself both in the real world and, perhaps more crucially, digitally into a new life-care destination for consumers. You halve your store-open rate, remodel units where it makes sense, and expand product inventories to include more grocery and general merchandise. But you also devote resources to building out services in mobile, social, and the Web that are both convenient and content-rich, in the expectation that those efforts will build loyal customers and, over time, revenues.”
